This module investigates the mechanics of plot and structure, determining the difference between these two fundamental elements of creative writing. Detailed information is provided regarding various types of story structure/s (along with structural devices). Consisting of three units, the module prompts readers to put the knowledge and skills they acquire in relation to plot and structure and complete numerous writing exercises. A number of readings and short video viewings are recommended.

Investigating Plot and Structure
This is a single module (the third within the Emerging Writers' Course) that examines the difference between plot and structure in narrative. Participants will learn about the mechanics of plot, while also investigating different types of story structure. Various techniques concerning the manipulation of plot and structure, such as foreshadowing, withholding information from readers and using significant detail, will be investigated. Consisting of three units, this module contains a variety of writing exercises, as well as recommended readings and viewings.
